What's going on here?

A bunch of folks have already signed up for Marketing for Devs, even though I've barely mentioned it. One person even bought the paid membership before I explained what it is. (Thanks, Zack!) That's probably a sign I should explain what I'm doing here.

How I got here

I wrote the original version of the Marketing for Developers book in 2015. That launch changed my life. In its first year, it helped me make $66,000 in side-project revenue. The following year, after the startup I worked for was acquired, I decided to focus full-time on my own products.

In total, the book has sold more than 5,000 copies.

Why Now? (The shift to AI)

Since 2016, I've considered rewriting Marketing for Devs multiple times, but I never felt I had an angle that warranted a new version.

But now, in the age of AI, that's all changed. Building software products is more accessible than ever.

"The hard part was never building a SaaS: it's getting anyone to notice you." – Tyler King

Using tools like Claude Code and Cursor, more people will launch apps than ever before. The hard part? The marketing: finding customers and getting them to care.

So in 2026, I'm rewriting the book, chapter by chapter, to help builders like you navigate this new era.

What's in it for you?

Anyone on the free email list will get access to the original book (I'm in the process of publishing those chapters). If you go to your account page, you'll also have access to the original audiobook.

The "Premium Membership" will get access to new chapters as I write them, plus access to the private podcast and the Discord.

(In fact, I'm doing a marketing audit for Zack [my first member] in Discord now!).

Why write the book publicly? Three reasons:

  • Writing in public means you get to see (and influence) the content as it develops
  • Chapter-by-chapter releases mean you can apply tactics immediately instead of waiting for the full book
  • The Discord community means you're learning alongside other builders

The plan

  1. Release all the chapters from the original book online (still in progress). You'll get email notifications for each one.
  2. Once that's done, I'll start writing new chapter drafts and publishing them here. Free members will get a preview. Paid members will get to see the whole thing.
  3. I'll be starting a public Marketing for Devs podcast with interviews with as many friends as I can wrangle (I've already asked Adam Wathan, I'm going to ask Lars Lofgren, Ruben Gamez, and others soon).

I'm excited to work on this in public and share what I'm learning. Whether you're on the free list or in the Discord, I'm glad you're here!

Cheers,
Justin Jackson
